Albert Fry [f.7.6.4]

Albert Fry was the fourth child of William Fry & Harriett Hudson christened December 31st, 1882 at St Mary’s, Hartfield, Sussex.

Albert’s father died the year after he was born, & in 1891 Albert was living with his widowed mother, brother & sister at Chuck Hatch grocer’s shop in Hartfield where his mother was a master grocer.

Albert’s mother remarried in 1893 & at the time of the 1901 census he was still living with his mother & step father Alfred Card at Chuckhatch. Albert was working as a gardener.

In 1911 Albert, a stockman on the farm, was with his cousin, William Fry & his family at the time of the census at Bishopstone Farm, Ansty, Cuckfield. William, a farmer, was the son of Robert Fry [f.7.2] & Alice Fuller.

Soon after the 1911 census Albert emigrated to Canada.  In 1916 Albert enlisted with the 34th Fort Garry Horse Regiment in Winnipeg.  He gave his next of kin as mother Harriet Card of Henfield, Sussex & his occupation as carpenter.

There is a record of him returning to England on the ‘Minnedosa’ on December 3rd, 1921, arriving at Liverpool.  He was noted as a farmer at this time & his proposed address in the UK was Henfield, Sussex.

Albert married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hudson on February 28th, 1922 at Hartfield, Sussex. Lizzie was christened September 8th, 1895 at St Mary’s, Hartfield, the daughter of Jane & Obadiah Hudson, a carpenter. Obadiah was the brother of Albert’s mother Harriett & therefore Albert married his cousin.

Soon after their marriage Albert & Elizabeth sailed from Liverpool on the Canadian Pacific liner ‘Montcalm’.  They left on March 25th, 1922 bound for St John, New Brunswick, Canada.  Their last address was given as High St, Enfield, Sussex.

Albert & Lizzie lived in Canada & Albert died at Indian Head Hospital, Indian Head, Saskatchewan in 1965. Lizzie died in October, 1970 & was buried on October 30th, 1970 at Indian Head Cemetery alongside Albert.

The children of Albert Fry & Lizzie Hudson were:
